Climate
We are going to teach you about the climate on the Coastal Plain. The winters on the Coastal Plain are very mild and short. Also the temperatures rarely gets below 40 degrees. The Southeast Coastal Plain has a very warm climate because it is closer to the equator. They are closer to the Atlantic Ocean. The summers are around 80 degrees.The warmer weather causes a longer growing season for the Coastal Plain.
We are going to teach you about the Piedmont Plateau. The winters are cooler and longer than the Coastal Plain. The average is 10 inches of snow. The temperatures are less mild because they are closer to the mountains and further from the ocean. The Piedmont Plateau also has a shorter growing season than the Coastal Plain.
We are going to talk to you about the higher elevations on the Appalachian Mountains. The summers are cool and pleasant. The winters are very cold. Also they get heavy snow and it's severe.
The average rainfall in a year is 50 inches because they are a lot closer to the ocean. Their heaviest rainfall is in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The thunderstorms are very common on the Coastal Plain. Tampa, Florida can have 80 days of thunderstorms and can get up to 10 inches of rain in 24 hours.
We will talk to you about what August, September, and October are known for. These months have a hurricane season. Millions of dollars in things can be destroyed during this season.
